Milk Smell Car Odour Removal

This Mini had coffee spilled in the driver's foot well. Somebody else had already had a go at cleaning out the smell using a shampoo machine, but sometimes, when only done from the surface, this can make matters worse because it dilutes the offending substance and spreads it further.

Upon lifting the carpets we were able to see the stains where the coffee had been. While it had soaked through the foam underlay, and pooled in the floor pan, it didn't appear to have spread much further.

The rotten milk smell comes from bacteria which then gets into the air where you can smell it. It then wafts around the entire car and settles on all surfaces, especially hard surfaces.

We fog the entire car with enzymes and deodorant and wash down all the surfaces, even in the back of the car. The carpet is then re-shampooed from underneath to extract the coffee. We treat it with enzymes which act like bacteria, using the milk as a food source, so it's all gone. And then continually hit it with mild bleach which oxidizes any residue and deodorant which is anti-bacterial.

Finally, we use a bicarbonate of soda based product under the carpet, which will draw out and absorb any trace of odour. After all this washing, the car is thoroughly dried because bacteria loves moisture, and it isn't good to have damp in your car because it leads to condensation which causes corrosion and helps spread bacteria around your car.
