How much water is in a leaky car?

There can be a surprising amount of foam, sponge, wool and sound deadening material under your carpet. On some cars it is as deep as five inches. So even though your carpet may seem dry, it doesn't mean the car is dry. There could easily be a lot of water under your feet.

This can cause a whole host of problems. The most immediate will be damp smells, mould and mildew, followed by electrical problems. If left for a long period of time it can cause corrosion of important things, such as the bolts that hold your seats firmly to the floor of the car.

If you have water get into your car, either through a leak or because you drove through a deep ford, we do suggest you take it seriously and investigate. It is likely your car will need decontamination and drying.
